Making an Emergency Payment

When a vendor's internet is down at an event, normal payment verification can't run. Emergency Payment is a backup way to pay in that situation: you keep a code in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and the vendor scans it. You set it up in the CHI App under Settings → Payments → Emergency Payment, opened from within an event.

Setting Up Emergency Payment

1. Open the event, then go to Settings → Payments and tap Emergency Payment.
2. Tap Set up Emergency Payment.
3. Read the Before you set this up warning: the code can authorise purchases without online verification, and anyone who gets a usable copy may be able to use it until it expires or you cancel it. To limit that, a fixed allowance is set aside from your token balance — that reserved amount is the most this code can ever spend.
4. Tap I understand — set it up (or Cancel). When it's ready you'll see Emergency Payment is ready; if your requested amount exceeded the cap, you'll see Your emergency allowance was set to the maximum currently allowed instead.

Adding the Code to Your Wallet

1. Under Wallet, tap Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet — only the options your device supports are shown.
2. Approve adding the pass, then keep it in your phone's wallet app to show vendor staff if their internet goes down.

Managing Your Code

The Status section shows your state, Allowance left, Max per purchase, when it was created, and when it expires. Under Manage:

• Tap Replace with a new code if you think someone may have copied your code — the old one stops working, so add the new pass to your wallet again.
• Tap Cancel this code to end it: your unspent allowance goes straight back to your balance. Vendors who are offline right now may not see the cancellation until their device reconnects — anything they take in the meantime will be rejected. Confirm with Cancel the code.
• Tap Turn off Emergency Payment to switch the feature off entirely.

Reviewing Emergency Purchases

The Emergency purchases section lists every charge made with the code, in tokens, with a status of Confirmed, Pending, Rejected, or Needs review.

Note: Emergency Payment is configured per event. If you see Emergency Payment isn't available for this event yet, the organiser hasn't enabled it there — open the page from inside an event to continue.
